Philadelphia Spanish Academy Mission

Philadelphia Spanish Academy

Rich in history, Philadelphia today is a bustling city, one of the largest in the United States, with a thriving Spanish-speaking population. During the 2000 US Census, 1.5 million residents were counted in Philadelphia, and of that total population, 152,000 claimed to be of Hispanic or Latino origin, while 126,000 speak Spanish in the home.

Hispanic and Latino culture is alive and well in this diverse city, and includes the popular El Centro de Oro, Philadelphia’s Latino hub, which includes an outdoor art gallery, stores that sell a wide variety of Spanish books, music, art and other gifts, and authentic Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban and Columbian restaurants. With such a strong Spanish-language base, there is clearly a need for Spanish language instruction here.

With a growing Hispanic and Latino population, and a number of Spanish-speaking residents, Philadelphia is clearly a city where knowing the Spanish language is an asset for learners of all ages.
